Tips
- Search for "[source needed]" before you publish. Each one is a sentence the model would not stand behind; give it the figure, or cut the claim to what you can show.
- It will not invent a quotation. For an interview write-up, paste the quotations you actually have into the brief and it builds the piece around them; give it none and it writes around the gap rather than filling it with something plausible.
- A brief is "why X, for Y, because Z" plus the facts. A topic is "write about newsletters", and the article will be exactly as vague as that.
- Two thousand five hundred words is the longest single run. A 5,000-word feature is two pieces or two passes — and the second pass writes better with the first pasted in.
- The ending is written as an ending. If it reads like the introduction again, the brief probably did not say what the reader should do differently.
Frequently asked questions
Why will it not give me statistics?
Because it would be producing plausible numbers rather than true ones, and a fabricated figure in a published article is the kind of mistake that follows a byline around. Where you have the number, put it in the brief; where you do not, the marker tells you exactly which sentence needs an afternoon in a source.
Is this publishable as it stands?
It is a good first draft that took a minute. It will be structurally sound, correctly spelt and free of invented facts. It will not have your judgement, your best sentence, or the anecdote that makes the piece — those are what you add. Run the result through the Story Editor if you want a second read.
Can it write in another language?
Say so in the brief — "write this in Hindi" — and it will; the structure and length options still apply, though the spelling rules are written for English.
