Percentage Calculator
Calculate percentages, percentage change, and reverse percentages in both directions.
Formula
part = whole × pct/100 · change = (new − old)/old × 100
Tips
- Percentage change is directional: going 100 → 50 is −50%, but 50 → 100 is +100%. The same absolute move gives different percentages.
- A 20% drop followed by a 20% rise does not return you to the start — it leaves you 4% down.
- Percentage difference (symmetric) compares two values without treating either as the baseline.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between percentage points and percent?
If a rate moves from 5% to 7%, that is a rise of 2 percentage points, but a 40% increase in relative terms. Mixing the two is a common source of misleading statistics.
